Kudarah lies on the southern side of Ari Atoll, near the protected marine area of Kudarah Thila. The island itself is a small coral cay formed from sand accumulation on the surrounding reef platform. Historically, islands of this size were not permanently settled but used intermittently by fishers from nearby inhabited islands. The surrounding reefs remain biologically rich, reflecting the currents that move through the channels of South Ari Atoll.
