About Coco Palm Dhunikolhu
Dhunikolhu sits along the western side of Baa Atoll where reef flats give way to deeper ocean waters. The island formed as coral sand accumulated on the reef edge and was later stabilized by vegetation. Historically islands like this were used intermittently by nearby communities for fishing and coconuts. The surrounding reef slopes and lagoon support a range of marine habitats typical of the northern Maldivian atolls.
