Maafushi and Kedhigandu are neighboring reef islands within Dhaalu Atoll’s lagoon system. Both islands formed through the gradual accumulation of coral sand on reef platforms. Historically such islands were used intermittently by fishers and coconut harvesters rather than permanent residents. The surrounding reefs and lagoons support marine habitats characteristic of the southern Maldivian atolls.
