About Nakatchafushi

Nakachchaafushi is a small island in North Maalhosmadulu Atoll (Raa Atoll), Maldives, measuring approximately 250 metres in length and 80 metres in width. Surrounded by a turquoise lagoon and healthy coral reefs, the island covers just under 2 hectares. Its unique setting includes a narrow reef edge that drops quickly into deep ocean, attracting larger pelagic fish and offering excellent dive conditions. The island's natural vegetation is largely intact, with coconut palms and coastal plants providing shade and erosion control. Its compact size, proximity to rich marine biodiversity, and relatively undisturbed reef make it ecologically valuable and visually striking.

Nakatchafushi lies within the lagoon of Kaafu Atoll where coral islands rest on shallow reef platforms. The island developed as coral sand accumulated along the reef crest and was later stabilized by vegetation. Historically islands of this scale were visited occasionally by fishing crews rather than permanent residents. The surrounding lagoon and reef slopes support coral communities and reef fish typical of the central Maldives.
