Matheerah Mangrove
Matheerah’s mangrove exists where the island’s interior allows water to settle and remain. It is a place defined by stillness—mud, roots, and slow exchange with the sea. Mangroves here help maintain water quality, filtering sediments before they reach the reef. They also create microhabitats for crabs, fish, and birdlife. Such wetlands are often overlooked, yet they are among the island’s most functional ecosystems. Their condition reflects how carefully the land is treated, as even small disturbances can shift the balance they depend on.
