Thakandhoo Mangrove
Thakandhoo’s mangrove is a modest but important feature, shaped by shallow water movement and rainfall. The system depends on balance—too much disturbance can disrupt water flow and soil structure. Mangroves anchor the land, reduce erosion, and provide habitat for species that rely on sheltered conditions. For island communities, such areas have long been part of lived experience, even if not formally protected. Their continued presence reflects a degree of care, whether intentional or not, allowing natural processes to persist alongside human use.
