Mathi Kilhi covers about 54 hectares along the border of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo in Addu City. It is a protected wetland featuring freshwater ponds, including the central “Fenfila Koaru,” and marshes rich in sedges and grasses. The area supports diverse plants such as sea hibiscus, hibiscus, screwpine, and water-adapted Portia trees, along with freshwater fish like greenstripe barb and swamp eel. Mathi Kilhi provides natural flood control, supports local agriculture with fertile soils, and offers important wildlife habitat. Community efforts maintain boardwalks and benches, creating a space for education and eco-tourism in this lush ecological garden. pic mathikilhiecogarden
