About Dhan'gethi

Dhan'gethi has long served as a central point for small-scale trade and inter-island services within South Ari Atoll. With a land area of approximately 0.49 km² and a population nearing 1,000, it supports diverse marine-based livelihoods. The reef environment supports both tuna fishing and reef fishing activities. A well-protected harbour supports a moderate-sized fishing fleet and inter-island transport. Natural vegetation includes coconut palms, screw pine, and breadfruit trees. Dhan'gethi's public infrastructure includes a health centre, school, mosque, and a waste collection system. Coral reef habitats around the island host species such as parrotfish, snapper, and octopus. Its central location has historically made it a gathering point for traditional fishermen and traders. Coastal management is addressed through regular shoreline monitoring and the use of coral rock reinforcements.
