Hosting one of the most intact coral gardens in its area, Hithaadhoo covers 9.3 hectares and is home to around 674 residents. The island has registered population of 1,415 people. The island is fringed by seagrass beds and vibrant reefs supporting cleaner wrasses and juvenile groupers. Although small, it maintains essential facilities like a school, mosque, and health post. The lack of mangroves is offset by its healthy marine ecosystems. Fishing remains a vital occupation, while limited tourism ensures a quiet, traditional lifestyle. The community values its close relationship with nature and participates in occasional reef monitoring and marine education initiatives.
