About Kudarikilu
Just 6.2 km from the world-famous Hanifaru Bay, Kudarikilu is one of the closest inhabited islands to this manta aggregation hotspot. It covers 15.3 hectares and supports about 451 residents who rely primarily on reef fishing and small-scale agriculture. The island has registered population of 673 people. Located on the southeastern rim of a vast lagoon, the island is fringed by seagrass beds, coconut groves, and healthy coral reefs that host turtles and juvenile reef fish. Although it has no mangroves, its ecological setting is rich, supporting seasonal marine life migrations. Public facilities include a mosque, school, and health center. Kudarikilu also participates in Baa Atoll’s broader conservation efforts and engages in basic waste management and shoreline protection. Tourism remains limited, with occasional guesthouse visitors seeking off-grid experiences. With close proximity to a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a tranquil coastal environment, Kudarikilu stands out as a gateway to some of the Maldives' most vital marine ecosystems.
