Uligamu Mangrove
UnknownMangrove/Wetland
In Uligan, the mangrove sits as a low, sheltered system where seawater and rainwater meet. It is shaped by seasons—expanding in wetter months and tightening in drier ones. The trees anchor soft ground, holding sediment that might otherwise drift into the lagoon. Birdlife passes through, especially during monsoon shifts. These spaces are rarely dramatic, but they are persistent. Their importance lies in continuity: maintaining shoreline stability, supporting nearshore life, and marking an older rhythm of land and water that the island still follows.

Yachts Visiting Uligamu More Than Ever
In our island Uligamu, more and more yachts are visiting every year. Already this year, a few have come and more are on the way. Around 80 yachts are expected to stop by. Even though we don’t have cafés or restaurants yet, crews still come to rest and get supplies. Some of our youth work as yacht agents, helping visitors. When the guesthouse and city hotel are built, and with the new airport in Hanimaadhoo, even more tourists might come. The council is working to make sure we’re ready.
