About Feydhoo

Feydhoo is historically notable as the resettlement island for the original inhabitants of Gan, who were displaced in the 1950s when Gan was developed as a British Royal Air Force base. Located in Addu City, Feydhoo has a population of around 3,500 people and spans just under 1 square kilometer.
Despite its small size, Feydhoo plays a significant role in the interconnected southern islands via the Addu Link Road, a causeway system that connects several islands in the atoll. Feydhoo is largely residential, with essential public services and community institutions. Its economy is driven by local businesses, government employment, and nearby tourism infrastructure.
The British era left a lasting legacy in the southern atolls, and many families in Feydhoo trace their roots back to the original Gan community. The island has preserved some oral histories and family traditions from that period, contributing to its unique cultural identity within Addu City.
