About Thanburudhoo

Thanburudhoo is a small uninhabited island in Kaafu Atoll, covering just under 4 hectares. Though close to Malé and well-known for its reef breaks, the island itself remains quiet and mostly undeveloped. Coastal vegetation like beach heliotrope, screw pine, and young palms grow along its sandy edge, providing shelter for seabirds and coastal insects. The reef around Thanburudhoo is part of a larger lagoon system, with coral patches and clear channels. In the past, local fishermen stopped here to rest or seek shelter in rough weather. The island has also seen attention in recent years due to nearby surf spots, but the land itself is still natural and untouched for the most part. People from the atoll recognize Thanburudhoo as one of those small islands that holds value not only for what it offers above water, but also for the surrounding reef and long-standing connection to traditional sea routes.
