About Vabbinfaru

Vabbinfaru is a small island in Kaafu Atoll with a land area of approximately 4 hectares and a surrounding fisheries area of 2.6 hectares. Located northwest of Malé and near the inhabited island of Himmafushi, Vabbinfaru is part of a cluster of reef-ringed islands in the central Maldives. The island is currently the site of a resort, but it retains features typical of the region: a white sand shoreline, dense coastal vegetation, and a surrounding coral reef system. These reefs contribute to the area's marine biodiversity and are part of traditional fishing grounds that have long supported nearby communities.

Given its location, it is likely that Vabbinfaru was once accessed by fishers from Himmafushi or surrounding islands before permanent development. Its natural setting continues to reflect the ecological characteristics of mid-atoll islands, with close connections between land, lagoon, and reef environments that define the central Maldivian seascape.
