About North Ari Atoll

North Ari Atoll is best known for its dive sites — some of the most renowned in the Maldives. Sites like Maaya Thila and Fish Head attract divers year-round for encounters with reef sharks, manta rays, and vibrant coral formations. The atoll consists of about 18 inhabited islands and over 30 uninhabited ones, with Rasdhoo being its administrative center. Rasdhoo also sits near a deep channel, offering prime conditions for pelagic sightings. Tourism is well established, both in resort islands and local guesthouses on inhabited islands like Thoddoo and Ukulhas. Thoddoo is also a major agricultural island, supplying fruits like watermelons and papayas to the capital. The atoll lies west of Malé and is accessible by speedboat or seaplane. Traditional fishing continues alongside tourism, and the surrounding reefs support diverse marine life. Despite coral bleaching events, many areas remain healthy due to conservation efforts and reef resilience.
